North Carolina Weekend

Last Friday we headed off to Shelby, North Carolina for the American Legion World Series. School or no school Barry was not going to miss this. It was about a 10 hour trip. We enjoyed the drive through the Smokey Mountains.

We arrived in time to check into our hotel and then head to the ballpark. Unfortunately, we lost our first game against Washington. They had a fun opening ceremonies after the game though where they introduced all eight teams and then had two skydivers drop into the stadium.

At the ballpark they had a mini carnival set up for all those that went to the ballgames. Each game we made sure we arrived early or stayed late so that the boys could ride rides and play carnival games. They had a great time.

The next morning we played Nebraska and won! Our team really played well.

After the game on Saturday, we headed to Charlotte for the afternoon. We went to the Children's Museum and also walked around the city. It is a really clean city with tree lined streets. There was a Carolina Panthers game that night so the city was filled with Panther fans.

The game on Sunday wasn't until 5:00 so we had time to go to church and then we headed to Crowder Mountain State Park for the afternoon. We took a hike, about 3 miles, and then had a picnic. The hike was up and down hills and over rocks and boulders. It was great. The boys were super hikers.

Just as the Sunday game started, we were surprised to see Uncle Matt. He had talked about coming on Friday but that didn't work out so we weren't expecting him. How great that he could come watch Dustin play. It was about an 8 hour drive from Maryland for him. Jonesboro lost the game against Virginia which meant that we would be going home. They had had a great season. We were so proud of them.

5th in the Nation - not bad!!

Well, baseball has come to an end for the 2008 season. What a great time we have had watching over 100 baseball games (that includes Kannon, Tanner and Corey's games). The boys have all made some good friends with their teammates and we have gotten to take some pretty fun trips. The day after we got back Dustin said that he missed baseball already. But now it is on to tennis for Dustin and flag football for Tanner.
