Oklahoma Weekend

After winning the State Tournament in Little Rock, Dustin was then off to Enid, Oklahoma the next week for the Mid-South Regionals. The night before they left there was a "Send Off" Party for them at a restaurant in town. The restaurant was decorated with balloons and they had a big cake. A lot of people came to wish them well.

Kannon ended up with all of the balloons at the end of the night.

Early the next morning they left on a chartered bus, which they thought was pretty cool.



Since the tournament was the weekend before school started Barry decided he had too many things to do to get ready so the boys and I packed up and headed to Oklahoma City on Wednesday afternoon. We spent the night with a good friend, Karla Smith, who had lived in Jonesboro a few years ago. The boys loved her dog, Ava, and had a chance to run around and be crazy for awhile before bed.








The next morning we were off to Enid which was about 2 hours north of Oklahoma City. We had a couple of hours to kill once we got there because there was a rain delay. We explored the downtown area and found the library - always a great place to kill some time. Then we went to a really nice park for lunch.

Finally it was off to the ballpark which was a really nice stadium. Jonesboro lost their first game to the Texas state champion. We thought oh well it was just great to get to come to the Regionals. Little did we know that Jonesboro would go on to win the next five games, including the championship game against Texas. Wow, we won the Mid South Regional! Now it is off to North Carolina for the World Series. Another road trip, at least for us, the team will get to fly. And they thought the bus was cool.








When we weren't at the ballpark the boys and I found plenty of fun things to do. Swimming in the hotel pool was a daily ritual. We found a putt-putt golf place and even a small water park. We also enjoyed getting back to the hotel each night in time to watch Michael Phelps and all of the swimming events.

That's Kannon and I riding a sled down a super steep slide. It was terrifying the first time, but by the 10th time or so it wasn't so bad. That Kannon is a daredevil. He will try anything.

The boys and I left on Sunday so that they could be home for the first day of school on Monday. We hated to miss the championship game which was on Monday but we were able to listen to it on the radio in Jonesboro. We sure are excited for Dustin and his team. They are just having a fantastic season. We look forward to watching more baseball in North Carolina.
